From Lockdown to Launch

How my client used the 8-week lockdown to launch a new business.

Small businesses have been doing it tough in Melbourne. All non-essential services and shops were shut down. There has been limited trading over the past 6 months and the economy is hurting. A familiar story for many.

But one entrepreneur, Dale Zara, decided to use his time during the lockdown, by building a new service-based business - the Blacklabel Barbershop - to redefine the neighbourhood barbershop experience.

And today is the grand opening!

On the first day or barbershops and hairdressers being permitted to open, the Blacklabel Barbershop opens its doors to its first customers.

So while many businesses were frozen, the Blacklabel Barbershop vision was coming to life. Branding, building website, sourcing product, securing staff, not to mention trying to manage a new site fit-out for the barbershop located in Werribee all while home schooling kids.

Fruitful Group was delighted to be appointed to build the website.

The brief:

  • Classic, Sleek, Premium

  • Black & White

  • Online service booking

  • eCommerce Shop

From when the website was launched, there was a focus on getting online bookings, so when the opening happened there were some appointments already booked.

The website also features the ability to purchase the premium Mr Muk range, which is exclusive to barbershops. Plus the shop features gift vouchers so you can purchase your family and friends.

Key Website features:

  • eCommerce for physical and digital products to integrate with their in-store POS, Square;

  • online service bookings with option to pay online or in-store;

  • email automation triggered on form submission;

  • live google map to get directions;

  • photogallery to showcase new venue; and

  • data capture forms to build a client list.

"I love supporting startups and really enjoy the process of bring a new brand to life. The client was great to work with and had a strong vision which helped to keep the website design on brand," said Shelley Tilbrook, Fruitful Group Managing Director.

If you are a Werribee local, or live in the area, head over to support this new business. They have an special offer that includes $10 off your first visit.
